My new favorite band Salem is featured in the new issue of The New York Times Style magazine in a high end fashion shoot that belies everything that the waaaaay indie band represents. I got into Salem earlier this year when I stumbled upon some of their incredibly scary music online and immediately fell in love. The band’s music is pretty undefinable tho the term WitchHouse has been used a bit when describing their sound (think electronic/punk/horror/grunge/noise/Hell). When I found out that Salem hails from Northern Michigan, my love intensified. Here is what the band looks like as featured in their very expensive clothing in NYT Style magazine:

Yeah … that’s a lot of expensive stuff. Trust me, tho, these guys are NOT about any of this couture shizz. They are dirty, raw … real. And I’m not kidding, their music is actually scary to listen to. After the jump, check out a live performance by Salem at South by SouthWest earlier this year to get a taste of what they sound like live …
Traxx live at SxSW:
Here is the band’s music video for Asia:
The band released their debut album King Night in September (MP3, CD) and I don’t want to spoil but I can let you know right now that the album will rank very high on my list of Top 10 Albums of 2010. Salem‘s appearance in NYT Style magazine inspired me to share a bit of my love for them with all y’all … they are deffo worth checking out … if you think you can handle it.
