The new Spider-Man reboot film, The Amazing Spider-Man, won’t be released until July 2012 but today we are getting our first look at the first teaser poster for the film … and it’s a pretty effing boring poster. As you may recall, back in February we got out first look at a promo poster for the film that showed us the new Spider-Man in action as he modeled the new costume. This teaser poster does show us what the logo for the film will look like but it does not show us anything AT ALL more of substance.
We’ve had a couple of neat images of of Andrew Garfield as the rebooted webslinger, but this is the first official promo material that’s been released for the movie. The logo does the job well enough, but it’s not quite up there with the iconic lettering of Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. While the logo is the focal point of the teaser poster, the compelling background will no doubt be put under microscopic scrutiny by rabid fanboys. It looks like it could be Spidey’s tough new suit, but there’s the merest hint of washed out red and blue in the dark colour palette. There also could be a scaly echo of Rhys Ifans’ Lizard in the texture, although maybe that’s just overthinking things a bit. Whatever that backdrop is, it looks like it’s taken some damage…
In all fairness, we are still over a year away from the film’s release so the fact that we are getting a teaser poster at all this far in advance of the film’s release is pretty cool … but I’m so unimpressed by this poster, I can’t really get all that excited. The Spidey promo photo we saw back in February was pretty dang awesome … that photo would’ve made for an excellent poster. But, as I said, we have a long time yet to wait before the film hits theaters and this poster is the first of many to come, I’m sure. Here’s hoping the next poster, tho, offers a bit more excitement … or something.
