The big screen adaption of the TV series 21 Jump Street had begun principal filming as the first photos from the set have make their way to the Internets. Stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were photographed on set, in their police uniforms. The film got a boost of cred recently when it was reported Johnny Depp, who starred on the original TV series, will make a cameo in the film. Whether you like it or not, 21 Jump Street: The Movie is coming our way.

It looks like Jonah Hill has gotten his wish. ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Johnny Depp will indeed have a small cameo role in Columbia Pictures’ 21 Jump Street, which is now filming for a March 16, 2012 release. To be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), the big screen adaptation stars Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson. Based on the Fox series that ran from 1987 to 1991, the movie will center on two undercover cops (Hill and Tatum), who are assigned to work in schools. Cube is playing the police chief and Larson is the female lead. Hill had previously said that they had written a “really funny” cameo for Depp and was hopeful that he would do it. Depp, who played Officer Tom Hanson in the series for 80 episodes, can next be seen in theaters when Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens on May 20.

While I **honestly** do not believe the world needs a 21 Jump Street movie, I will see this film when it gets released for 2 reasons … Channing Tatum and Johnny Depp. I used to watch 21 Jump Street back in the day but it wasn’t one of my fave shows. I’d watch it when it was on but I didn’t think it was anything special. This movie is going to be cheese-o-rama. Any Jump Street fans out there? Are you excited about this film?
