Very sad news to pass along today … TMZ is reporting that former superstar wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage died today in a car accident after he suffered a heart attack while driving. It is too horrible to think that Savage suffered a heart attack at a fairly young age but that he died in a car accident due to his heart ailment is just too tragic for words. The Macho Man was only 58 years old.

Macho Man Randy Savage — one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time — died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida … TMZ has learned. TMZ spoke with Randy’s brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM … and lost control of his vehicle. Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn. Savage was 58. Macho Man began wrestling in the WWF in 1985 and became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase “Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh.”

UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ … Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median … through oncoming traffic … and “collided head-on with a tree.” Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries. Savage’s wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision — but survived with “minor injuries.” She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated. According to officials, Randy and Lynn were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. Cops say alcohol was NOT a factor.

Wow … what a horrible tragedy. As a young boy, I was a huge fan of the World Wresting Federation and of the Macho Man himself. Alongside Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Junkyard Dog, Captain Lou Albano and more, Macho Man Randy Savage was one of the superstars of WWF wresting. You’re prolly not surprised to learn that I really loved Randy‘s flamboyant and very colorful outfits. The WWF really provided fun characters to watch and root for and Randy Savage was one of the biggest stars … I remember collecting bubble gum cards of the WWF wrestlers and even owned a Macho Man Randy Savage action figure. My deepest condolences goes out to the Savage family. This is very sad news … may Randy Savage rest in eternal peace.
