New comments made by iconic horror director Wes Craven, whose new film Scream 4 opens in mere weeks, reveal just how disenfranchised Craven feels about Scream 4. Due to changes made to the film by the studio (primarily the decision to take away some of Kevin Williamson‘s script writing), Wes Craven now feels that Scream 4 ultimately doesn’t feel like his film.
Wes Craven has admitted that Scream 4 does not feel like ‘his’ film. The director of the franchise told followers on Twitter that he is losing control over the project because of changes in the writing team. Scream 3 writer Ehren Kruger has been drafted in to reboot Kevin Williamson’s script. Speaking to Total Film, the horror legend said: “There was a bumpy period when things shifted over from Kevin to Ehren. “I signed up to do a script by Kevin and unfortunately that didn’t go all the way through the shooting.” He added that it is “not entirely” his film but his job is “much more bringing whatever experience and expertise and creativity I can”. The third sequel, starring regulars David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell, will open on April 15 in the UK.
Yikes!! This does not bode well for a film that has not yet opened yet. If the film’s own director isn’t totally happy with the movie, how can movie fans be expected to like the film? While these comments made by Wes Craven are worrisome, I’m still pretty anxious to see Scream 4. I just hope the changes made by the studio will result in a good sequel. Scream is one of my fave film franchises … I want to see that tradition continue.
