Pink reader Rob gave me the head’s up about some very cool Sarah Michelle Gellar news. We already know that she is planning her return to TV this Fall in a new CBS series called Ringer but it turns out that she is also starring in another new project, set for release soon. SMG is one of the stars in a new video game, y’all! In very Buffy-like fashion, SMG plays a zombie slayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation – Call of the Dead. The video game is inspired by the work of horror legend George Romero and also stars Robert Eglund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Danny Trejo (Machete) and Romero himself. SMG will play the sole female role … and as you can see from the screencaps and video below, she basically looks exactly like Buffy the Vampire Slayer … but with a gun rather than a wooden stake.

Noted horror film director George Romero will lend his likeness to a Call of Duty: Black Ops level inspired by his zombie film works, along with several well-known action and horror film actors. The new level, called “Call of the Dead,” will be included in the upcoming Escalation downloadable content pack. In addition to Romero, actors lending their likeness to the grindhouse-inspired level include Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Robert Englund (A Nightmare On Elm Street), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) and Danny Trejo (Grindhouse, Machete). “This is Treyarch’s tribute to the legendary George Romero, who truly defined the zombie genre and whose incredible work has been such an inspiration to our team,” said Black Ops director Dave Anthony. “It was an absolute honor to work with such an amazing and talented cast whose passion and energy brought their characters instantly to life. Fans are going to love this.”

Holy shizz, how cool is this? I am a big fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer video games that were released for Xbox and it always bugged the HELL out of me that Sarah Michelle Geller would not lend her voice for the games. Every other BtVS actor provided the voices for their characters in the video game … save for SMG. Now, all these years later, she finally agrees to voice a game … at last! Altho she isn’t really playing Buffy in this Call of Duty game, she sure as shizz looks exactly like Buffy ;) My boy Darion is a big video game freak so he will SURELY get this game … and I can’t wait to play it with him :) Sooooo cool, right?
