Janis and Mitch Winehouse, parents of the late Amy Winehouse who was found dead in her apartment in London yesterday, have both commented on the passing of their late daughter. Naturally, both Janis and Mitch were shocked and devastated by the news but … very sadly … Amy‘s mother had been expecting her daughter’s death for years. I cannot imagine the pain a parent must feel at the death of their child … but it sounds like Janis had resigned herself to the eventuality of Amy‘s death for some time now.
Amy Winehouse’s mother Janis has said that she predicted her daughter’s death when they met just 24 hours earlier. The pair spent the day together on Friday, but Janis suspected that it was “only a matter of time” before Amy died due to her behavior. The Mail on Sunday quotes her as saying: “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me.” Janis went on to describe her final exchange with her daughter as they parted on Friday. When they kissed goodbye on the doorstep, Amy said: “I love you, Mom.” “They are the words I will always treasure and always remember Amy by,” Janis added. In an interview in 2008, Janis admitted that she was aware of Amy’s problems, saying: “I realize my daughter could be dead within the year. We’re watching her kill herself, slowly. “I’ve already come to terms with her dead. I’ve steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road” … Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has said that he is “devastated” by his daughter’s death. Mitch was reportedly on a flight to New York City when the news broke that Amy had been found dead. He was visiting the city to promote his new album at the Blue Note music club on Monday, but has since canceled the planned performance and taken the first plane back to London. Mitch is quoted by the Sunday Mirror as saying: “This isn’t real. I’m completely devastated. “I’m coming home. I have to be with Amy. I can’t crack up for her sake” … The latest tabloid reports suggest that Amy had bought a cocktail of drugs on Friday night and was devastated by her break-up with on-off boyfriend Reg Traviss.
Ugh … this is so tragic for Amy‘s parents. It was NO secret that her mother had been dreading news of her daughter’s death for years. It must be complete HELL to watch your child wither away and die right before your eyes. Something about Amy‘s dad always bothered me (and let’s face it, he gave some very weird quotes to the press when Amy got her huge breast implants) but I do feel horribly sad for both Janis and Mitch. As for the “drug cocktail” mentioned above — keep in mind that NO official cause of death has yet been announced. The autopsy is scheduled for today so until we hear something for sure, we cannot know the actual cause of Amy‘s sad death. Let’s hope Janis and Mitch will be able to come to terms and heal from their loss as quickly as possible. At the very least, Amy is no longer suffering … and make no mistake about it, the woman has been suffering for many years. Hopefully her parents can take some comfort that her painful wasting away is now finished and she can now rest in peace.
