Another 4th of July has come and gone here in the US but last night all of New York City was alight with rockets’ red glare and star-spangled banners. And right smack dab in the middle of all of the celebratory hoopla was a very special lady. No, not the Statue of Liberty (altho, she was there, too) … I’m talking about popstar Beyoncé. Bey was the featured performer on NBC‘s 4th of July fireworks spectacular … click below to see some photos and video of Beyoncé celebrating our nation’s independence as only she can.
She regularly wows fans with her revealing stage outfits and booty shaking dance moves. But Beyonce clearly deemed it more appropriate to dress in more formal attire as she gave a stunning performance of God Bless America at tonight’s special Macy’s Fourth of July celebration in New York. The 29-year-old singer wore a strapless floor length black gown and pink and white necklace for her two song appearance. She performed her new hit single The Best Thing I Never Had along with patriotic number God Bless The USA in front of the appreciative crowd. The concert, which took place on Liberty island, looked even more impressive against the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty. The show, which was hosted by Nick Lachey, also paid special tribute to the 125th Anniversary year of the iconic landmark. New Yorkers then celebrated Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display.
About 40,000 shells, featuring 50 designs and 17 colours were fired over the Hudson River from six barges.
Beyoncé sounded and looked fantastic. She is the perfect singer for an event like this. You need a big voice to help America celebrate its birthday, you call Beyoncé (now that Whitney Houston is, sadly, no longer available). Great performance, yeah? Love it!
