Yesterday we got our first look at actress Lily Collins as Snow White in the as-yet untitled fairytale film directed by Tarsem Singh and today we get to see promo photos from the rival Snow White film. Snow White and the Huntsman stars Twilight star Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Queen, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Sam Claflin as the Prince and you can check out their just-released promo photos below.
In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.
Apparently during the panel discussion yesterday at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Snow White and the Huntsman was likened to the Lord of the Rings films and was described as a “tough, rough male and female action movie”. HMMMM. I’m not sure I, personally, am convinced that K. Stew can pull off a role like this. I’ve yet to see anything that convinces me she can play a serious role, well, seriously. She was OK in The Runaways but still … I remain skeptical. I like these images but, IMHO, it looks like they are trying a bit too hard. At this point, I’m much more intrigued by the other Snow White film which will be directed by Tarsem Singh. I fully trust that his visionary directing style will serve the story very well. It’ll be very interesting to see how these two Snow Whites fare in a head-to-head battle. As I said before, the Twilight audience will no doubt come out in FULL support of Snow White and the Huntsman (so they’ve got the numbers built in) but my gut tells me that the Lily Collins film will be the more sumptuously entertaining to watch.
