Author Anne Rice, who’s 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire is being adapted into a graphic novel set for release next year, has announced that she is working on her next novel … which will be about werewolves. For the past few years, Anne has been writing books about angels but it sounds like she is ready to get back into the world of darker supernatural stuff (like the vampires that made her famous over 30 years ago). According to an interview that Anne gave to MTV, this new book will be her take on the werewolf phenomenon. Click below to watch video of her interview.

MTV Geek had the pleasure of chatting with acclaimed author Anne Rice recently at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Rice is quite busy on the comics front, with adaptations of her work scheduled to come out from IDW Publishing (Servant of the Bones) and Yen Press (Interview With The Vampire) — but she’s also excited about a werewolf-themed new book she’s working on, “The Wolf Gift” — “It’s about a young man who becomes a werewolf. It’s my take on what that experience is like for that young man, to experience that transformation and how it works in his life and how he copes with it.”

Normally, I would groan at news of “another werewolf” anything but the fact that this is coming from Anne Rice has me all excited. She is an amazing author and I have enjoyed reading her books for over 2 decades now. I’m quite curious to see how she handles the world of werewolves. In recent years, she has turned away from “darker” supernatural stories because of a religious conversion. I’m very interested to see what she’s got in store with this new book. I’ll deffo be reading, will you?
