Speaking at the Billboard Film & TV Music Conference this week, music producer Lukasz Gottwald (better known to the world as Dr. Luke) spoke publicly on the progress being made on Britney Spears‘s as-yet untitled new album! According to Luke (who will co-executive produce the album alongside longtime Spears collaborator Max Martin), Britney‘s new album will be “grimier” than her previous offerings … and will likely be released in the Spring of next year!!

Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, the producer behind pop smashes like Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK” and Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” talked about the secrets to his chart achievements in a keynote Q&A at the Billboard Film & TV Music Conference. Of his many upcoming projects, the most anticipated might be Britney Spears’ follow-up to 2008′s “Circus,” which he is executive-producing alongside Max Martin. “She’s an icon,” Gottwald said of Spears. “She’s been around for a while and always delivers, so there’s a lot for us to live up to.” Dr. Luke, who co-produced and co-wrote the title track to “Circus,” said that he has not yet met with Spears to begin working on the album. However, the producer told the audience that he already has a few ideas in mind that will help shift the pop star’s musical style. “I want [the sound] to get harder in some ways,” said Gottwald, “and maybe a little more deep into electronic — grimier.” Spears has reportedly finished three new songs for the album, although Gottwald said that there’s no timetable for a release. “We’re early in the process,” he said.

Altho Dr. Luke doesn’t mention a Spring release in this article, a report from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the timetable is to get Britney‘s album in stores next Spring:

The big draw of Thursday’s Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference was undeniably producer Dr. Luke, who not only packed the afternoon Q&A session moderated by ASCAP’s Randy Grimmett, but got bombarded by throngs of his own fans not a moment after the talk ended … he handled the unruly bunch with aplomb, but coming up next is perhaps his most stressful gig yet: as co-executive producer on Britney Spears’ forthcoming seventh studio album. Luke’s partner? Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, who’s been both a mentor and collaborator and has worked with Spears on and off since her 1999 Jive Records debut, …Baby One More Time. Dr. Luke contributed several tracks to 2008′s Circus … “She’s such an icon, I don’t want to let anyone down,” Dr. Luke told THR. “But most importantly, I want to make good music.” The LA-based Luke … says he’s just starting to wrap his head around the Britney album now. He anticipates it will be out in early 2011, while an insider tells THR, it will definitely hit stores before March 31, the end of Sony’s fiscal year. A Jive Records rep would not comment on a release date or confirm a timeline. Other producer-songwriters said to be working on it include Darkchild and, according to Luke, Montreal newcomer Billboard … [Says Dr. Luke,] “I’m excited to be co-executive producing with Max Martin, the person who kind of invented Britney, and to make good music. And she’s such an amazing vehicle to getting that music out to a lot of people in every country.”

At last … real news about Britney‘s new album that we can take to heart and wrap our heads around. Rumors spread like wildfire where Britney Spears is concerned, I’m glad to hear straight from the horse’s mouth what we can expect from Britney‘s next album … and when to expect it. I LOVE that Jive Records has paired Max Martin (a producer responsible for some of Britney‘s most iconic music) with Dr. Luke (the hottest producer in music right now responsible for the most infectious pop music on the air) for Britney‘s new album. The marriage of these two producers bodes very well for an amazing album of new material. OY! I cannot WAIT to hear more about the progress being made on Britney‘s album … Spring 2011 can’t get here soon enough for me.
