Just days before the film is destined to wow fans at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Lionsgate has released the first movie poster for the much-anticipated big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. As you may recall, we spent much of the past Spring following the film’s casting … but news from Games has been pretty quiet for some time now. This first movie poster is actually a motion poster … that moves. Check it out below.
“Harry Potter” cast his last spell this weekend, and there are only two more bites of “The Twilight Saga” left. But thankfully there’s a new film adaptation of a hugely popular book series on its way to create another fan sensation. It’s “The Hunger Games,” based on the first novel of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Take a look at the exclusive motion poster featuring a brand-new (and highly combustible) logo based on the story’s iconic mockingjay pin. “The Hunger Games” stars Jennifer Lawrence — an Oscar-nominee for last year’s “Winter’s Bone” — as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each other to the death until only one remains. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. Katniss wears a mockingjay pin — the flaming symbol on the poster — which is a sign of rebellion against Panem’s oppressive government. Also starring Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz, “The Hunger Games” will open on March 23, 2012. To find out more about the movie, check out the Lionsgate booth in the main hall at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con.
Oooh, I like it. It’s simple, yet striking. I’m a big fan of motion posters so I applaud Lionsgate for going this route with the first poster. What do y’all think, Hunger Games fans? Do you like this first official promo image from the film?
