Back in January we learned that actor Henry Cavill was cast as Superman/Clark Kent in the upcoming Zach Snyder-directed reboot film Man of Steel. Today, we get our first look at Cavill in the iconic Superman costume as the first promo image from the film has been released. Altho the film is not due to hit theaters until June of 2013, today we get our first peek at the newest incarnation of Superman. Check out the photo below.
Warner Brothers has released the first ever image of their brand new Superman, played by Henry Cavill. Behold Zack Snyder’s new scaly vision of Superman from his Man of Steel movie. Looks like he’s busting out of bank vault! Who knows what’s going on in this image, the whole thing could merely be a set up just so the studio could release the first image … Also in the press release was a little run-down of each character:
The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”). Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”). Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy. “Man of Steel” is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
HMMM … I like the image but the muted colors are a bit of a turn off (click HERE to see the photo full size). I like my superhero costumes to POP with color. I’m not sure if I’m reading too much into things but the darker, muted colors might be a signal that this Superman film may be … darker? Who knows. I am glad that we are getting to see this promo image now instead of next year. I’m actually surprised they didn’t unveil this image at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con last weekend. And speaking of Comic-Con, Henry Cavill was in the hiz to promote this film and while he was not rockin’ the Superman suit, he was rockin’ the Clark Kent hair curl:
What do y’all think of our new Superman? Are you impressed? To be honest, I’m not wowed like I was when we got our first look at the new Spider-Man. Now that costume has got color that pops. As for Superman … what do y’all think?
