Frances Bean Cobain, the only child of Courtney Love and late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, posed for famed designer-turned-photographer Hedi Slimane and she appears to be all grown-up. In the photos posted on Hedi Slimane’s website, Frances Bean is shown smoking against a chain-link fence, leaning against a torn American flag and posing in various ensembles. The elusive 18-year-old displayed a slew of tattoos, including lettering on her back which reads, “L’art est la Solution du Chaos.” Cobain debuted her own artwork in July 2010 at Los Angeles’ La Luz De Jesus Gallery, using the pseudonym Fiddle Tim. The somewhat dark drawings depicted characters like punk rock singer GG Allin and cult leader Jim Jones. Cobain has a strained relationship with her mother Courtney Love, who lost custody in 2009 and took to Twitter to accuse Frances of ‘destroying’ her. The teenager may inherit millions from a fund set up shortly after her father’s death, when she was just 20 months old. Meanwhile, in 2010 Love was sued by a management firm for $1 million after selling a portion of Cobain’s band Nirvana’s catalog for $20 million. Cobain commit suicide in Seattle on April 8, 1994 at the age of 27. Nirvana is known for hits such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are.” Despite the success of Nirvana and Love’s band Hole, Love has had a long history of debt and drug abuse.
Wow … stunning. It seems to me that Frances is slowing emerging into the public eye on her own terms. The release of her artwork last year was a nice introduction but these photos are sure to catch the eye of those folks who have been interested in her life since she was borne from the union of Kurt and Courtney in the 90′s. She looks so much like her father … it’s those eyes. Her tattoos are fantastic … tho, I’m not too keen on the smoking. Still, I love this series of photos. Frances Bean is a remarkable beauty.
